DATE: March 7, 2006 CONTACT: John Canale Volunteer Coordinator Senior Companion Program (619) 291-6814 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Senior Companion Program is looking for additional volunteers. If you are at least 60 years of age, have a limited income, and have a real desire to help others, then the Senior Companion Program is for you! For your efforts you will receive an hourly tax-free stipend, have your travel expenses reimbursed, and earn paid sick and vacation time. The Senior Companion Program already helps many of San Diego County’s homebound elderly and disabled residents with friendly visiting, taking a walk, and assisting them with some tasks of daily living. They might read the mail for someone who is blind, talk to another who is lonely, or help a different person with some of their paperwork. The need is especially acute in the East County. There is a paid 20-hour pre-service training course and monthly In-service meetings required. We ask that you volunteer at least 15 hours per week. Call (619) 291-6814 for an application or for more information.
